The Fruits Of Labour Exhibition Opens At Gallery Griffith Regional Art Gallery will open its community art exhibition for 2024: "The Fruits of Labour: Celebrating 100 Years of Irrigation Research and the CSIRO", on Friday, 27 September at 6pm.

This exhibition, featuring historical information and memorabilia as well as artworks by local artists, has been curated by Gallery Coordinator, Raymond Wholohan and Dr Barrie Steer, former Research Scientist for the CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation). It aims to honour the legacy of irrigation research and the CSIRO in Griffith over the past century.

Mr Wholohan, says “This exhibition contains a broad range of contemporary artwork created by local artists, based around the theme and we also have historical information, objects and cultural material from the CSIRO and other associated organisations such as IREC (Irrigation Research Extension Committee) and loans from Pioneer Park Museum and other private collections.”

He says, “Many local artists have also created a visual feast of clever interpretations of the theme Fruits of Labour.”

Dr Steer, who worked with the CSIRO for many years and has been instrumental in developing this exhibition, said, “We invite anyone who worked or had an affiliation with the CSIRO, or has an interest in the historical, agricultural or scientific research in this district to the opening this Friday night. Not only will it be a great opportunity to catch-up with old colleagues, but also celebrate the legacy of an important part of Griffith’s history.”

Artists, patrons of the Gallery and the wider community are invited to the opening of this important exhibition on Friday, 27 September at 6pm. The exhibition is also proudly supported by Griffith Pioneer Park Museum and the Gallery’s wine sponsor Dee Vine Estate.
